Will another primary be needed or can the GOP just choose another nominee?

Will another primary be needed or can the GOP just choose another nominee? Eeek, each State party has their own rules, but I’d lean strongly towards the Party choosing another nominee; the only other option is if the Governor only has 60-90 days to schedule a Special Election and you could hold a primary and Special before November. Somebody will I’m sure be poring through the Indiana State Constitution and the Indiana Republican Party rules. EDIT: Thinking a bit more, the other option, which happened in the Missouri Senate race in 2000 when Mel Carnahan was killed shortly before election day, is to elect her posthumously and then trigger an immediate Special Election.

If Kansas voted No 60% Yes 40%, I wonder what the split was for men and women

Must be hard to live down being beaten by a dead man, although Don Young’s first run for the Alaska US House seat involved losing to a missing and presumed dead Nick Begich in 1972

IIRC Mel’s widow, Jean, was appointed to the open seat, and she was beaten in 2002 by Roy Blunt who’s retiring in November, hence last night’s contested primary.

Any reason known for the different party there? Begich seems to be a family associated with Alaska Democrats Hopefully he wins since Sarah Palin seems to be the alternative

There’s a dearth of polling, and it will depend on how well Alaskans get their heads around ranked choice voting, but I would imagine most Democrats and Independents will, at worst, second preference him, and I doubt Palin has much room to grow her numbers as long as it doesn’t appear the Dem can win.

From what I have read about him in the past, Nick Begich III is a life-long conservative Republican, whether it started as a teenage rebellion or not, it has stuck, whilst the rest of the family are Democrats.

Liz Cheney's latest ad has her father coming out swinging against Trump. He called Trump loser, liar and a coward and the greatest threat to the American Republic in its history. Personally, I think that title should go to either Jefferson Davis or Robert E. Lee, but it is a fair point he's making.

Fair to say that Cheney has given up on achieving renomination.

Fair to say that Cheney has given up on achieving renomination. Which is a shame. She's one of the few honest Republicans left.

I’d still rather be Herrera Beutler, she’s performing a stronger second in the counties being won by the Democrat Perez, most of which are barely over 80% reporting.

Herrera Beutler has lost - bit of a shock. It’s not been called by the AP yet, and it seems there’s still 6-7% to be reported. They’re also still on the cusp of automatic recount territory - 0.5% or less than 2000 votes.

The Oregon gubernatorial election is one of the more interesting gubernatorial races this time around, due to the independent candidate Betsy Johnson polling strongly: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_Oregon_gubernatorial_electionThe polling is much tighter than usual. Although Betsy Johnson is pulling more support away from Democrats than from Republicans, she has endorsements from some people from both parties and is getting support from some republicans (probably the more moderate end). I still think the Democrat candidate will win but 3 months is a long time in politics and there is more of a risk of an upset this time, especially as there is no incumbent (although Kate Brown had low approval ratings).

Oregon’s also one of those hard States to poll because of its all mail voting.

I voted!
I supported the incumbents, as well as Mandela Barnes for Senate, Sara Rodriguez for Lieutenant Governor, and Aaron Richardson for Treasurer. The only Sauk County position Democrats have a candidate for is Sheriff, so I wrote in Russ Feingold for County Clerk of Courts and Herb Kohl for County Coroner.
