She wants another chance to prove she is simply the best.

She wants another chance to prove she is simply the best. And not just a private dancer.

They would probably take out the Akron part and retain the eastern suburbs so it might actually be better for Brown.

The state auditor of Maine has been forced to resign after failing the 2 accounting exams needed for the job. He spent 14 non-consecutive years as Secretary of State and quit that job to be auditor. A new one will need to be elected by the state legislature, hopefully somebody who is actually qualified for the job this time (though given this is American state government, don’t expect too much).

Probably cut the gap a bit but Lee will still win easily

Who was the last statewide elected official to switch parties - West Virginia Governor Jim Justice? If I remember correctly Justice was a Republican until 2015 and then returned to the party in 2017.

Defection wise Republican Jim Jeffords Senator from Vermont was a big one in 2001. He became an independent rather than a Democrat but the senate at the time was 50-50 like it is now with Cheney being the casting vote. Jeffords gave the Democrats the majority by caucusing with them albeit the Republicans got it back in the 2002 mid-terms.

he has a reputation of being a conservative democrat that can win in unfavourable terrain (Trump won his district by 17% if I remember correctly), but he would probably lose as the midterms are probably going to be pretty bad for the Dems.

Who was the last statewide elected official to switch parties - West Virginia Governor Jim Justice? According to Daily Kos Elections the last was New Mexico Land Commissioner Aubrey Dunn, who left the Republicans to become a Libertarian in order to run for Senate in 2018 but dropped out when Gary Johnson joined the race, and the last Republican to Democrat switcher was Nebraska Auditor Kate Witek who lost re-election after switching in 2006.

Of the current Senate Richard Shelby was elected twice as a Democrat in Alabama before switching to the Republicans in 1994, presumably seeing the writing on the wall for the remaining Southern Democrats after the mid-terms that year

Maine's 2nd CD voting to the left of Maine's 1st CD It should be noted that in 2002 more then 9% of the vote went to the green candidate (I assume he performed better in CD-1)

Maine's 2nd CD voting to the left of Maine's 1st CD Baldacci had been Congressman from the 2nd District for four terms, so probably had some crossover appeal. Carter had got 6.4% four years earlier, securing ballot access for the Maine Green Party, which four years later had become the Maine Green Independents; he’d also led a successful referendum campaign to prevent or reduce logging in the State, which likely gave him a higher than your average third party candidate profile.

Also Cianchette was something of a moderate and his political base was in Portland where he had previously been a member of the state legislature.
