Ticino, election of 5 ministers:
27.9% = 2 LegaT. 24.5% = 1 Liberals&Radicals 18.2% = 1 exChristDemocrats 17.1% = 1 Socialists 04.3% = 0 Greens 01.0% = 0 GreenLiberals
No change in the distribution (except, that the CVP-inc. was de-elected by a PartyFriend...).

The StatisticalOffice of ZurichCity published a study on TurnOut in the recent CantonalElection (green=men, blue=women): Increased participation also among ImMigrants and in certain less wealthy parts of the city (where it had been traditionally low).

There's an election in Ticino apparently, on 19th May. Presumably cantonal.

There's an election in Ticino apparently, on 19th May. Presumably cantonal. No, there is not (cf. the results above). 2 referenda will take place CH-wide: One on adapting EU's GunControls (opposed only by SVP), one on pensions (disliked by the voters of SVP and GPS [and partly those of SPS]). At www.tamedia.ch/umfragen You can see OpinionPolls (made OnLine at the fora of Tamedia's media).

After SVP's second minister in canton Aargau was not able to run her hugh ministry properly (despite being an ex-judge), she was expelled and finally stepped down. Her replacement will be elected in a second round today. Only SVP and SPS are running; presently they are neck-to-neck.

And SVP managed to defend its minister-seat (narrowly, as had been expected).

ByElections for two cantonal ministers took place today, both in French-CH:
In Jura a PDC/CVP-minister was elected last fall to the federal small chamber, while her precessor in Bern candidated today - so after many months, the Swiss have doubtlessly patience - for becoming her successor in the cantonal government. He received 41.50%, the PSS/SPS-challenger surprisingly strong 37.87%, the UDC/SVP-one formidable 20.63%. On paper the PDC/CVP should hold this (current cantonal composition: 1 PSS/SPS, 1 PCS/CSP [Left-"Christians"], 1 PLR/FDP, 2 PDC/CVP).
In Vaud it remains 4:3 (1 Green, 3 Socialists; 3 Radicals&Liberals), so PLR/FDP was able to keep its seat with 55.95%. Not overwhelming, as none of the established parties opposed their woman. Only 2 Independents (11.69%, 5.16%) - and the St.Greta's "FridaysForFuture"-demonstrators, who had first intended to run collectively, then drawn a 19-year-old student by lot (!), then proposed some rotation of the minister-job (weekly?, daily?) aso.

In Jura the new minister will be from PSS/SPS (47%, 38% PDC/CVP, 15% UDC/SVP). Thus the composition of the government will be without a majority for the bourgeois on the one hand and the exChristian parties on the other hand, for the first time ever (i think):
2 PSS/SPS (socialists) both female 1 PDCI/CSP (left-"catholic") male 1 PDC/CVP (ex-catholics) male 1 PLR/FDP (liberals&radicals) male

St.Gallen and Uri will go to the polls tomorrow.
Are there any questions/interests? Perhaps we can answer them.

My eternal question in Swiss Politics: Will the SVP do well?

My eternal question in Swiss Politics: Will the SVP do well? Quite certainly not. They lost heavily last autumn and had done quite well in 2016 (if i remember correctly). Another warm winter hasn't helped, too. The city of St.Gallen - famous for its liberal ("neoliberal") Business-(Semi)university - is less left than others, though. Here is an OverView for the SG-elections since 1912: www.bfs.admin.ch/bfsstatic/dam/assets/1644262/master

Someone ought to start an independence movement there, so they can campaign for the sweet release of a sovereign Uri Nation.

What are the areas of responsibility and how do they compare say with the devolved administrations here in the UK or the individual States' powers in the federal USA?

Canton apparently originally means "corner, or edge". I didn't know that.

All cantons have the same powers, also the 6, which are de iure "semicantons" (de facto they are equal to the 20 cantons). The Wikipedia does not mention fully, that the municipalities are important, too (especially for distributing welfare-goodies; also individual citizenship is generally granted by them, partly still in elections).

In Sankt Gallen the capital is still not counted for the parliament.
Government:
2 CVP 1 FDP 1 SVP 1 SPS
FDP, SVP, SPS will compete for the last 2 seats.
