Officially, she hasn't resigned yet. Nor have the MPs for Cardiff S or Manchester Central, AFAIK........ And you have just mentioned Mid Ulster - *is* anything actually happening there??

A writ can be moved in the recess to replace a Member who was appointed to a disqualifying office other than a Stewardship. However the last case of any MP being appointed to a different disqualifying office was in 1981. I assume that was Thomas Williams as a High Court Judge? If Martin McGuinness doesn't fancy the embarrassment that Gerry Adams had, what other offices could he be given.

I assume that was Thomas Williams as a High Court Judge? Yes. No, no , no - well only in part. I only raise this bit of tedious detail because it is a common mistake to which I was alerted years ago by a friend of mine who is a judge, ex-parliamentary candidate and a fellow election anorak .... Sir Thomas Williams was only appointed as a circuit judge, not as a High Court judge. Wikipedia et al are wrong - see: hansard.millbanksystems.com/commons/1981/jun/26/new-writwww.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/48630/pages/1If anyone is a wiki editor (davidboothroyd??) a small edit would be welcome - and make someone I know very happy!

Margot Parker has been selected as the UKIP candidate. She contested Sherwood in 2010 but lives in the the Corby constituency.

I'd guess it is probably reasonably accurate as a snapshot though. In a byelection there would probably be a higher swing to the opposition, ie Labour. And there will be a UKIP vote probably over deposit level, conceivably in double figures.

The full data tables are interesting . The VI figures are Lab 30% Con 19% LD 3% UKIP 1% Green 1% Refused 8% Won't Vote 12% Dont Know 24% Almost as many 2010 Conservative voters are now going to vote LD as UKIP but more are switching dirext to Labour . Contrary to the perceived wisdom the 2010 LD voters have not switched en masse to Labour around 1/5 have done so , the majority have moved to Won't Vote/Don't Know . More 2010 Conservative voters have moved to LD than 2010 LD voters have moved to Conservative . Of the 22 UKIP voters 19 are male 3 are female , 11 did not vote in 2010 , 9 voted Con 1 each Lab and LD

A bet on a Labour win is a better return than keeping your money in the bank.

Louise Mensch has said in reply to a question on Twitter she'll be taking the Manor of Northstead tomorrow. There still isn't any confirmation of this on the HM Treasury website.
