If I could make a point about the way Ian, EAL, Bishop and Robin have just reacted and distinguish. On the right side of the style Ian has forcefully made a political point. EAL has generally discussed the issue. Bishop has sharply but probably in a fair manner asked a question. Robin on the other hand has gone for the man not the ball. The use of the terms tory boy, strop and p**s off are clearly bullying. Please try the examples set by those colleagues. You can use them on me I have a thicker skin than Liam. And for the record the way DBIV was treated in our previous abode was not nice either. Robin clearly dislikes doktorb. As it happens, I entirely share those opinions. Our difference is that, faced with a Lib Dem with a habit of decisions of doubtful advisability (I could go further than that, but will not) and a preference for decisions that are decidedly centre-right economically, Robin doesn't bother reaching out to try to find a point at which we can all respond rationally. Every single strop and failure to respond to a simple question makes me find Robin's position more understandable. I don't think there is a division of views here, merely a distinction within responses. And I certainly don't think that doktorb has done anything to suggest that he deserves (as distinct from needs) kid-gloves.

Erm, Corby starts counting at breakfast time....... Is this the first time a parliamentary by-election has not been counted until the following day?

Is this the first time a parliamentary by-election has not been counted until the following day? No, it's happened lots of times. Most recent was Norwich North in 2009.

For what its worth
BBC reporter saying UKIP candidate could have come 2nd.
Considering the split of votes with their being varying degree of anti Europe parties I would say that is a good result.
I wish the Tories would learn that a great vote winner would be to cut the ties with Europe.

That would be astonishing and superb if true. There did seem to be various reports about a surprise for second place in Cardiff last night which came to nought and frankly for all kinds of reasons lately I'd give about as much credence to a BBC reporter as I would to a Twitter rumour posted by ianrobo

Just been confirmed 35,733 votes cast in #Corby by election (10951 were postal votes) turnout 44.7815%
I am not a fan of postal voting always seems to open to misuse and fraud.

The only excitement on twitter is that the BETFAIR odds for UKIP has plummeted from 200/1 to 120/1 to 13/1
But Labour is still odds on
But the tories are only 37/1

5/1 FOR UKIP now just been picked up by political betting.
Be interesting if the labour odds rise.
Either the count is showing a very big swing for UKIP or someone has a lot of money to waste on betfair

For which we are no doubt grateful, if nevertheless entirely baffled. Well, he wants to have some association with a winning candidate, as his man Mitt lost so badly last week .... My "man" was the Libertarian candidate, but hey ho, given that you live in a world of falsehoods and lies ("TAX CUTS FOR MILLIONAIRES, SQUARK, TAX CUTS FOR MILLIONARIES, SQUARK, WHO'S A PRETTY BOY, SQUARK!"), I'm not shocked to see another one here. I did give a reason why my second preference could go either to Labour or UKIP in another thread, so if you can cope with doing research that doesn't come from your regional HQ and/or arse, I'll let you discover it.

I thought 'in absentia' was supposed to mean that someone wasn't actually there. Apparently the meaning in Preston is somewhat different.

BBC have just been showing the stacks of votes in Corby. 12 k for Labour 6k for Tories. question is how big a win will it be for Labour and how many votes UKIP have got. Also qoutes that Lib Dems have lost their deposit.
