The Chancellor of the Exchequer has this day appointed Louise Daphne Mensch to be Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead. {http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/press_74_12.htm) I always thought that could only be done in recess. What are the chances of the other three 'waiting to resign' doing it sooner rather than later?

The Chancellor can appoint a new Steward at any time. The only thing that can't happen in the recess is moving the writ.
It is usual for MPs arranging to resign to delay actually taking the Chiltern Hundreds until the day before the writ is moved. It helps with office staffing and other matters because no-one can use any Parliamentary service if there is no MP. I would expect Alun Michael and Tony Lloyd to follow this precedent and actually take the Chiltern Hundreds in late October.
When Martin McGuinness will go is entirely unpredictable.

What are the chances of the other three 'waiting to resign' doing it sooner rather than later? Since the appointment is not a Parliamentary matter it does not matter of Parliament is sitting or not. Moving the writ for a by election is another matter.

Has he given any indication he is interested in going into politics?? He might just be aware of Ted Dexter's not entirely successful punt as a Tory election hopeful This is becoming a bit of a theme. Remember the rumours that the Tories were hoping to get Darren Gough to be their candidate in Barnsley Central?

You can see what probably happened with the Tories' slight mix-up with the name of the constituency. Some bright spark in Central Office thought the constituency name had been given as "Corby & East North Hants" and thought that usually you put the "North" before the "East" so changed it to "Corby & North East Hants".

It'd really be easier if everybody just agreed to call the constituency by its actual name.
