I will create the thread in the hope that we get the details on the next ten by-elections rather sooner than last week which was all a bit of a last-minute rush. I'll wait a bit to see if somebody else feels like putting up the details but if not I will do so, bit by bit over the next day or so

I didn't know there was an Oxbridge in Stockton-on-Tees.
There is one in Dorset I've heard of.

It's quite an old neighbourhood, I would say most of the housing stock is Edwardian, some Victorian. My bit of Oxbridge is named mostly after royal residences: Buckingham, Osborne, Windsor, Kensington, Balmoral, Hampton etc - supplemented with Eton and Marlborough which I guess were added because they are distinguished old places. I live in Sydenham Road, not sure how that fits in but someone will no doubt tell me. It is a solidly working class area so I not sure that the name derives from a conflation of Oxford and Cambridge or whether it was a bridge with an ox.

Presumably named after this family ...? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Ropner(I'm skimming through Harold Macmillan's multi-volume memoirs at present and while he was Stockton MP the Ropners come up quite a bit)

( not all that unusual among baronetcies, actually)

Sydenham was a desirable area once I think.
I believe it's in Lewisham.

I'm not sure how much that helps, though it's possible I suppose that the road was so named because of the presence in Sydenham of the Crystal Palace at the time that these streets were built Sydenham gained early popularity for its mineral waters, so it is likely it had Royal visitors. It developed into a very affluent village set on the hills, well above the pollution found in much of Victorian London. This attracted the Crystal Palace to be re-erected there. It actually now straddles three London boroughs. I grew up close to the southern portion which is within Bromley, and always remember it as a pleasant area to wander around.

Thanks for the link Adrian. In fact "Ox Bridge" is still identified on my 2015 edition A-Z of Middlesbrough, Stockton-on Tees etc, page 97, 1E.

Makes me glad I don't have a Twitter account! Your descriptions in those cases seem correct, although the town of Stockton appears to have expanded south of the River Tees (the borough certainly has) and could therefore be considered to be partly in North Yorkshire.
