The local elections should be of interest to the Lib Dems in Vale of White Horse and Brentwood. We will have a tough fight in those two areas to hold the seats.

The gremlins got into my note of the St. Neots town council by-election and I mistakenly reproduced the result for St. Neots Eynesbury ward in 2007, instead of the result for St. Neots Eaton Socon ward.
The result for St. Neots Eaton Socon on 3 May 2007 was: Lib Dem 791/731/719/708, Con 675/605/576/558 Elected: Lib Dem 4

It is very difficult keeping track of town council by-elections, so I am delighted if others can alert me to forthcoming by-elections.
So thank you, Mark, for Littlehampton (River), which I had missed.
There is an interesting by-election on 6 December in Great Aycliffe (County Durham). I am just waiting for the Council to post the candidates.

It's not a ward the Lib Dems had been close in even before 2006. this piece previewing this election seems to indicate down to an excellent LD local branch and internal Tory unrest. The councillor who is stepping down due to his wife's ill health was orignally a LD defector in 1996 neilmonnery.co.uk/2012/11/01/shelfield-by-election-dec-6-legit-shot-lib-dem-gain/

nice to see a Lab candidate in Wombourne. Ah Wombourne, home of the former leader of South Staffs council who said that 90% of gays should be gassed and the rest shot.... and then the Labour leader added his support.... Where the police put out a leaflet asking the population to report on any sightings of black people as there had been some burglaries recently.... Wonderful place...
