The last city I lived in was a district. The city I now live in is a parish.

I've only ever lived in one (British) city and that wasn't even a civil parish as it has a Community Council!

Greens not living up to their principles with the selection of their candidate or did they exhaust all the possibilities for other candidates? But I feel good about the LibDem candidate Haha I hope this curse of name will finally help in some name recognition/laugh votes! P.S. I'm James

In addition to your name I was interested to see a Pankhurst namesake coming back after 100 years and an unusually international sounding Tory!

We're aiming for a doubling of our vote from last time so to 10-15%, then Lincoln is a thirds system so we'll keep hammering away. Yeah a good selection of candidates, all live in the ward too which is nice.

3 way marginal between Lab, Ind and Harlepool First? The 8 contestants for prediction competition obviously think so - 4 give it to Hartlepool First, 3 to the Independent, and one to Labour

It must be a rare event that as much as half a parliamentary constituency goes to the polls on the same day for local by-elections, as is occurring today in the case of Nottingham North (it may have happened in the case of one or two Birmingham seats as they have so few wards but I can't recall it)

Maybe this is one of the reasons we’re not being allowed to watch episodes of Top of the Pops on BBC4 which were presented by Mike Smith. Sarah Greene is blocking them because Smith was apparently dissatisfied with his TV appearances and his TV career as a whole.

I thought that after I posted that. I can remember a byelection in Kingstanding in the last few years but Birmingham by-elections do seem to be incredibly rare, specially compared to somewhere like Salford

I haven't heard the suggestion that Mike Smith didn't like his appearances. He did decline to sign the licence extension before he died, but I don't think the reasons have been given. Also not sure if his next of kin were involved.

You wait a few years and then three come along at once. (ok maybe not years for buses but you know what i mean...)

If Keith Edkins site is correct there had not been any by-elections in the city of Nottingham since March 2014. I'm sure the comparison with buses is not lost on David Bishop..

Are they all declaring tonight, the potential electorate for Epping Forest - Lower Sheering is less than 2,000 so that shouldn't take more than an hour to count? Gravesham, Meopham North is not much larger so that should be next.

Epping Forest tweet that the turnout is 15.6% in Lower Sheering. Not many votes to count
