Looking forward to providing updates on Thursday night for St Helier. The last London by-election before the summer break and probably one of the last before next May.

A feature of the Rutland, Whissendine by-election is 3 of the 4 candidates are near neighbours; Conservative and the 2 Independents give addresses in the village as 29, 33 and 42 Ashwell Road respectively. The Liberal Democrat has an address 5 miles away in Oakham.

interesting stuff and as always wish I'd read it before sending in this week's predictions -  like the point raised by middleenglander

I was made very aware of the by election in Wealden (Hellingly & East Hoathly) by the number of appeals for help reaching me- so it looked as though they were really trying. Of course because of my circumstances I wasn't able to offer any help in a local very rural by election some 70 miles away, so if the Lib Dems haven't done well it will no doubt be all my fault.

Ian Arnold was a stalwart of Whissendine parish council. The Lib Dem came from Oakham. Rutland is very parochial. Or so my reasoning went yesterday night.
