As You named no party i assume, that it portrays the Con-vs.-Lab-swings!? It's a trend map, so it's rather the difference between constituency swing and national swing. Sure, that is a "trend". But what is meant with "swing"? In other countries the word is used for every party's %-gains&losses. No party was named by Pete and in UK "swing" is taken for First-vs.-Second, so i assume it's Con-vs.-Lab: exactly what i was looking for! ("The Times" [but the New Yorker one] publised a cartogram-map with arrows, which is too abstract.) You saved me from several hours of work - thank You, Pete! |

Charles Kennedy's old seat gives the SNP its joint largest majority. Discuss. It's to do with split opposition there. The other large majority in Dundee is the perfect nexus of a 'traditional' SNP seat having enough in common with urban central belt constituencies that the party didn't don't become unpopular when appealing to former Labour voters under Sturgeon, in the way they have done in the rural north. |
