Can someone clarify something for me?
You can't be a PCC if convicted of something that could lead to imprisonment, whether or not a lesser penalty was applied. That's clear.
Seed says
What does he mean by this? That he couldn't have been sentenced, as the rules at the time didn't list this particular instance of being over the limit as severe enough? Or was it that the 'sentencing authorities' (the magistrates I assume) couldn't imprison him for this (which seems unlikely, but this was almost 30 years ago and I've no idea what their powers were regarding this offence at that point), or was it that the sentencing guidelines recommended against but that the law allowed for it if deemed necessary by the bench?
On another note, what about people who've been convicted and are subsequently pardoned?

Bedford: Renamed to North Bedfordshire, 16 October 1975 Did they rename again? Prior to becoming a unitary, Bedford was Bedford BC. EDIT: I have answered my own question. They got a charter in 1975 granting borough status as North Beds and renamed back to Bedford in 1992. Which presumably annoyed everyone in Kempston.

Who was it who described the 9th Earl de la Warr as 'that absurd creature'?

The Salisburys through the 19th and first half of the 20th century. I think 4 successive generations made it to the Cabinet (and, of course, one extremely important prime minister, still lauded by many Tories). One generation was skipped (the very conservative 6th Marquess, though he was an MP). Then his son made it into Cabinet and is still around. Quite recently, John Gummer’s son, Ben, was the youngest member of Theresa May’s Cabinet. Was he in the Cabinet or just attending?

Sinn Fein seem to have a lot of churn. Do they have some sort of internal deal where you do x years and step down for person y? Like that German party in the European Parliament? Lynch had been there for a long time; co-option allows them to slot new candidates in before an election in order to accustomize themselves rather than present the electorate with an entirely new face. There's also an issue of trying to rejuvenate an Assembly team that is viewed as lacklustre in comparison with their southern bench; whether it works remains to be seen - certainly the likes of Órfhlaith Begley wouldn't inspire anyone but still gets the "green dog" SF vote in West Tyrone whereas McCallion and Hazzard both lost ground in 2019, McCallion catastrophically so. Begley probably doesn't have an opportunity to do much though: how much profile does an MP who doesn't take their seat have? Sinn Fein have a worse problem than the DUP with this, as loads of them have been around for years and years, and as you say they're hardly inspiring.

Remember Sinn Fein still have dodgy army type councils that make decisions in secret, however much they try to hide it I did wonder if it was something like 'you be an assembly member, I'll smuggle the cigs. Then we'll swap.'

Any idea why? EDIT: Also why did Thamesdown not change its name to Swindon? To many people outside the borough who didn't want to associate with the town itself?

Whichever journalist wrote that article is obviously the most catastrophically insane hallucinatory nincompoop that has ever existed. If he or she had bothered to do any research into the matter, he or she would have noticed that it is physically impossible for the 90-year-old former curate of St George’s Church in Beckenham, Kent to be elected to fill the vacancy, because there is no such place. He may be the curate of St George’s Church, Beckenham, in which case he is not the former curate of any church in Kent; or he could be the former curate of St George’s Church in Kent, in which case he is not the former curate of St George’s Church, Beckenham, but he cannot be the curate of a church in a place which does not exist. Maybe he was curate (he is 90, after all) before local government re-organisation when Beckenham was in Kent? Beat me to it.

For the record Spanish and Portuguese wines are my go-to. South African wines are good though and I'm shocked at some of the comments above. Spanish and Portuguese for me as well. There are some excellent Portuguese wines, and so overlooked in the UK. I suspect its bad experiences of pinotage. It can be less than nice, even the quaffing stuff.

Apart from making a lot more money by building executive homes on land taken out oh green belt. As often said, there is plenty of land with planning permission which is being banked I wish your party colleagues in Stockport would decide what they want, and where they want housing to be built. It's getting rather annoying. But...but...but...local decisions, evidence based policy making, Lib Dem principles etc etc.

Sorry, I should have said eligibilty. The same criteria that make him eligible for any other parliamentary seat, I assume.

Why? Why not let the market set the targets? The market says "we want 300,000 3-bed semis built at less than £80,000 purchase price", is that not a target? The screams of people saying there aren't enough houses that they can buy *is* the market setting targets. If suppliers aren't supplying that's not the market not setting targets. It's the suppliers not meeting targets. Markets don't speak. Determining that the demand is there for something along the lines of 300,000 3-bed semis at less than £80,000 requires a lot of in-depth study, and can't easily be determined by examining what is happening in the housing and mortgage markets. That is interesting. What further study does it require? I would look at demographic trends, heavyside and lightside availability, logistics infrastructure to move that stuff to site, land availability. All that information is easily available or able to be modelled with some accuracy (so nothing like a HMG economic forecast).

I find a lot of South African wines have a burnt rubber twang to them. I did not realise vineyards used to be a popular site for necklacing Yes 'Chateau Mandela Equipe de Foot' is a popular vintage in downtown Soweto.

I have every sympathy with her current illness. I'd send prayers, but I rather suspect she wouldn't be particularly interested. Maybe I'll send Haribo instead...
Well, plenty of Tories are atheists, and she's clearly within the Tory mainstream enough to be in the Government. Which minister is this?

The issue of nimbyism is to Conservatives what the bedroom tax was to Labour A demand for protectionism by a group that has landed an unearned privilege and want to keep it by shafting the prospects of the next generation Soon we will hear of 'the hated planning reforms.'

I was in error re the size of electorate here. I had taken it to be 90,000 - but actual figure is 79,373. Total votes cast is 37,786 - which increases a 3,ooo majority to 8%. Why did you think it would be around 11% higher than December 2019?

The death has been announced of Clayton Willis, Labour councillor for Tyn-y-nant division, Rhondda Cynon Taf council. Off-topic, but does anyone know why Clayton, as a first name, is little known outside South Wales? See also Byron. And Tyrone? Or is that a film thing. A few Tyrones known to my family, and I personally know a Tyrone in Milton Keynes, of Bridgend extraction. There was Tyrone O'Sullivan at Tower Colliery as another example.
