The MT phrase came from 🏴☠️ Neath West 🏴☠️ -it's not a phrase I would use as it used to be the sole grounds for dismissal in my area of employment! Weren't you the deputy principal of a FE college or something similar?

What is this stuff about moral turpitude? Have we wound the clock back to 1905?

Let's alter the rules and then keep tweaking them until the LDs win however few actually want them. And if we can't pull that off gerrymander the system until at least the Conservatives are defeated, however complicated the system has to be to achieve it. Better still, let's have proper simple FPTP with the person getting the most votes winning. But FPTP is nothing of the sort. The "winner" can have only 25% of the vote in a 3-way marginal (with a couple of independents and the like thrown in)> The most popular is not always the winner. And you know that is true. I think you may believe that to carlton43, and many others (including me to an extent), that that's a problem?

As a constituent I have every right to know what my MP is upto . He's currently involved in a trial with a media embargo and is avoiding the House of Commons until that is resolved. You know that. In point of fact, you've got no rights at all to know what your MP is doing. In the same way that he doesn't have any right to know what you're doing. But then you know that as well.

Plymouth council website is showing George Wheeler (Lab) (St. Budeaux) as an Independent. Apparently he has been since May, but I didn't notice and no one told me.

Was the self confessed Taliban expert the Conservative MP for Wakefield in the Chamber yesterday or was he busy else where? I presume the trial is still ongoing with a media embargo. markgoodair knows this and is just trying to stir.

There are only 1,210 registered members on this forum, so it wouldn't have made a difference. It may have done depending on what marginals they were in. Anyway, the thread isn't about the impact of the forum on the election.

So despised that he's increased his share of the vote at every successive election, and it is now over 50%. His vote share fell in 2015. Also, whilst it increased in 2017, his majority was cut to just a couple of hundred.
Still, you're right that someone who gets above 50% of the vote can hardly be described as despised.
If they both want it, there will be a real fight for the new Pembrokeshire seat. Ceredigion and Preseli will be a very likely Plaid hold/ gain and the Carmarthen seat a very tough fight. I think we look quite strong and are in the running for it too.
41.1 in 2010 to 43.7 in 2015, although I did get that from Wikipedia.

Carbb would probably be the candidate for South Pembrokeshire (I would personally call it Permbrokeshire). What I asked (and guessed) is that having a high profile candidate in Simon Hart would probably help the Tories in Carmerthen. By high profile I assume you mean widely despised....and fail to see how that will help his cause. So despised that he's increased his share of the vote at every successive election, and it is now over 50%.

The run off has been put back to 31st August, from the 8th, due to a complaint. I've no idea what the complaint was.

What was the name of the original poster? He used to go on about living in France and how he was a hardcore socialist, IIRC.

I favour the death penalty in certain circumstances, and I also favour it being carried out in public in a violent fashion.
I am serious about this but realise it is very much a minority view.

On Ohio's 15th, Trump's influence continues in a state that voted to the right of Texas last year. Centrists, then.

Didn't Boateng finish up as a Blairite Cabinet Minister? If he hadn't taken the South African job it's not hard to imagine him spending a few months as the presumptive "Stop Brown" candidate. Boateng was one of those people who has a credible, serious career outside parliament but who becomes progressively less talented once elected.

I always think the Welsh influence is far stronger than the Irish. I've heard people claim that a Scouse accent and a Dublin accent sound similar, but I can't hear that at all. Especially not compared to one of those D4 accents. The first time I heard one of these, I wasn't sure if it was someone putting it on, so a colleague introduced me to Ross O'Carroll-Kelly. Fitted the guy we were dealing with to a T.

Government motion tonight would bring MPs suspended as a result of an IEP report (like Rob Roberts was) into the recall procedure on the same basis as those suspended after a Committee on Standards recommendation. Labour have an amendment to, in effect, make it retrospective. If selected, there will be a division at 7 pm. Has it been selected? I can't seem to find the govt motion.

They were relaunched in December 2020. I think they could be more accurately named "Labour Friends of Modi" but it's really quite difficult to imagine Labour voters being enthusiastic for Modi. Realistically, how many Labour voters care? As a whole I mean, not just in specific seats.
