The kind of sprawling area where an indie could do well.
That said, based on the Selby result, Labour could win this by running it up in York, Scarborough, Whitby, Tadcaster etc and hoping farmers stay home because of issues with the lack of CAP money and labour shortages post-Brexit.

Been in York the last couple of days - saw lots of posters for Skaith, but they were all in the window of the York Labour Party offices, so not sure that really counts...

No, it doesn't. It's a bit early to see a lot of bona fide posters. So far I've seen 2 anywhere except party offices, one LD & one Lab. I haven't been sent one to display yet & I'm on a main road, or I back on to one

Might the idea be to pressurise/shame Britannia Hotels into selling to another hotel group that would be prepared to invest in the building, which undoubtedly has potential as a landmark for the town? All the same, it is perhaps an odd thing to push as part of this campaign.

I was out leafletting this afternoon, and got chatting with a resident. They told me they were waiting for "the election booklet" to decide who to vote for, as they'd not received anything from any candidate, and expressed frustration that it hadn't arrived yet.
Which prompted me to think: Are we supposed to get a mayoral candidate election booklet? It had never occured to me that we would get one, but it was only a few weeks ago I realised we were having an election this year at all! When is it due?

I went to a hustings this evening, and was able to ask about a candidate booklet. I was told it will be posted out "sometime this week", along with postal ballots.

Will the result be declared as a whole for the North Yorkshire district or by former districts? Seems a bit of a trek to take all the votes to Northallerton but then again that was the whole point of the cost cutting exercise. Would be a shame of course not to see the granular detail - it wouldn’t be surprising for Labour to win York itself but if they won overall, with the rural districts unable to overturn Labour’s lead in York then Sunak could be in real trouble in his home territory of Richmondshire/Hambleton. Whether that be Tories staying at home or switching to Labour.

The count is being done in regional centres - Scarborough&Whitby and Thirsk&Malton are being done (in seperate rooms) in Scarborough Spa. The numbers will then be transmitted to Election Head Office to be totalled. If they are done the same was as the last PCC election, there will be regional subtotals either published or announced at the count and so recordable.
I've got a ticket for S&W.

Spotted in the Craven Herald & Pioneer:
“Independent Keith Tordoff was originally the Yorkshire Party candidate but was deselected when he promised free chickens for 2,000 households.”

Spotted in the Craven Herald & Pioneer: “Independent Keith Tordoff was originally the Yorkshire Party candidate but was deselected when he promised free chickens for 2,000 households.” It worked well for Mayor Daley (Senior) in Chicago. Mind you he had a cop go into the polling booth to make sure they voted for Daley first before handing over the chicken.
