You have got to be joking. Look at how large Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire are combined!

Yes, but it isn't as if these posts actually do anything.

Are the councils that are currently associate members (or whatever they're called) in South Yorkshire now covered by this?

Green Party have stated that they won't be standing in this election. Labour have selected former Watford MP Claire Ward as their candidate. Ben Bradley is pitching to be the Conservative candidate but Leader of Derbyshire County council Barry Lewis is also seeking the nomination. Ashfield Independents councillor - Matthew Relf will be a candidate. www.nottinghampost.com/news/local-news/labour-officially-selects-former-mp-8652586

I guess as an outsider she has the advantage of not immediately pissing off half the electorate by being either a Derby County or Nottingham Forest fan.

She's been living and working in Nottinghamshire for over a decade. My question to you is why does being born in Northumberland and having served as MP for Watford disqualify someone from being a candidate for East Midlands Mayor?

Well if she is familiar with the area then that makes a difference at least. I have spent my life living in the East and West Midlands and the US, I would not consider myself to be qualified to serve as Mayor of Cornwall or Cumbria or London. Surely one of the qualifications for being a Mayor is at least basic familiarity with the area you will control. Someone who had lived their life *entirely* in Northumberland and Watford would not be well qualified to be East Midlands Mayor imo.

Would be difficult to spend any time on the Derbyshire issues.

Would that mean a by-election in Mansfield, or would he just give up being leader of the county council? Or would he try to do all 3 jobs…?

Nonetheless, if this happens the "three jobs Ben" Labour leaflets pretty much write themselves don't they.

Bradley is an inspiration to work shy Brits, while many struggle to hold down one job he already does two and is applying for a third. He is getting my vote on that basis alone.
