Looking at the results, apart from Wakefield South, none of the wards were even close.
The independents in Airedale and Wrenthorpe were not even close.
Wonder what’s going to change in Wakefield over the next 2 years with extra Labour councillors?
P.S why can’t Labour win Knottingley? 😂

Wonder what’s going to change in Wakefield over the next 2 years with extra Labour councillors? P.S why can’t Labour win Knottingley? 😂 I have to admit that I expected Nic Stansby to do better in Wrenthorpe given her high local profile and all the famtastic work she does. Regrettably it didn't happen The last thing Wakefield needed, from an entirely independent position, was any more Labour councillors. It really was. It isn't good for Wakefield, it isn't good for democracy and it isn't even good for Labour. How Jack and Denise will manage to control them all I hate to think. Why can't Labour win Knottingly. Well, Labour took Knottingley for granted for decades. I am told that they didn't even bother to put a leaflet out at election times, simply expecting to win because they were the Labour candidates. When Tom won by a thumping 1700 votes, they were apoplectic with rage, with Glen Burton even saying to his mother, "Your son has taken my job".When Adele, Tom's mum, won again today I was delighted. She's a great women and nobody cheered louder than me. Knottingly is now a LibDem stronghold

I note with interest that Theo Biddle and his dodgy leaflets achieved 30.3% of the vote, down from the 30.8% he achieved in 2023.
If Labour make the unwise decision to select him as the candidate again next time around, which I'm sure they will as he's Yvette's little pet, it will be interesting to see how the Lib Dems choose to present this information on their leaflets.

Would Knottingley still vote Labour at a General Election despite it's local Lib Dem preference?

Would Knottingley still vote Labour at a General Election despite it's local Lib Dem preference? If 2019 was anything of a indicator it was the boxes from Knottingley that ensured we kept our deposit in Ponty & Cas.

the winners exactly as predicted on this forum before the election.
Winning Ossett by over 1000 looks impressive to this outsider.

It’s chaos as far as the Tory group goes . They joined with the Independent to form a Conservative/ Independent Group to try to be the Official Opposition. Cllr Harvey has as result resigned so putting both groups on 3 a piece .

Cllr Harvey has as result resigned so putting both groups on 3 a piece . I heard a rumour that the LD group approached the “independent person” to do the same with them, but then a Wakefield LD supporter/member started bad mouthing her on “X”, (which used to be Twitter), so that went down quick like a popped balloon. Not sure who the supporter/member was tho.

56 out of 63 to Labour on the full council. 🥴 Meaning the Liberal Democrats become the joint opposition. Not necessarily. The Conservative Ind group would claim.....well, they would if I was in charge......that they have by far the most votes in the district and therefore have a right to remain as the opposition. I dare say that Pete will argue to the contrary and say three councillors is better than two.

Well, as I am no longer a Conservative, or a councillor, it really isn't any of my business
