Any last minute predictions folks… Lib Dems to win Knottingley Labour to win everything else… Potential upsets in Airedale & Wrenthorpe…? 21/22 to Labour with LD winning Knottingley is odds on favourite. Are you thinking Independents win Airedale and Wrenthorpe? Not impossible, but with me not seeing anything from them on social media, it’s hard to tell, but would be an upset if they can pull it off. The chamber needs it let’s be honest, instead of more Labour councillors who just blame the national government when things go wrong. I’ve seen the Greens making some noise in a few wards. Can they make a breakthrough, I’d say no. They should have stuck with Hemsworth personally to get their first councillor seat. Fair play getting a full house of candidates tho.

According to a good mate of mine who is a Labour Councillor , Cllr Sharp has a very high option of herself. In 2022 when she was first elected she put herself forward go lead the Labour Group . She got one vote and the rest of the Labour Group all stood by Denise Jeffery. Could that vote have been from herself, or is that not how it works?

The Greens are targeting Wakefield North with 6 Election leaflets already delivered. All printed on 100% recycled paper I hope!

I think Nic is in with a good shout in Wrenthorpe. It should be fun tomorrow.

Any results yet, or is it too early? According to the PA Wakefield isn’t expected to finish until 7pm so I’d guess it’s too early. IIRC they usually count the wards in two batches.

Yes you remember correctly, two sessions. Should imagine we'll get the first lot of results circa-1p to 2pm(ish). Then next lot from 5pm to 6pm (ish)

Wakefield Council twitter feed has reported:
Knottingley - Lib Dem Hold Horbury and South Ossett - Labour Hold Featherstone - Labour Hold
So no surprises there.

I suspect it is just due to the size of the venue which is just a small sports hall? I can't think of anywhere else that would provide a larger floor area in Wakefield tbh.

Last year we had 7 recounts for Wakefield Rural ward because the numbers just didn’t add up hence why we finished ridiculously late . Hopefully it better organised this year.

It's a low poll and a small vote. Get the correct size of floor space and adequate clerks and counters. Plan it. Rehearse it. Manage it efficiently.

The bit in bold might be easier said than done, as I said I can't think of anywhere larger in the district. What is your suggested indoor venue? For the 2019 General Election count it was an uncomfortably tight squeeze, with a very small perimeter for candidates and party officials, having to walk sideways to squeeze past people.
