Never-ending merry-go-round of Pompey councillors continues. I wish, as I do with all the cases, that she would resign and stand under her new colours. I have particular contempt for the position of Councillor Hey who serves under false pretences as far as I can see.

Cllr Udy....flaming autocorrect. Her situation is, erm, complicated to say the least. Let's just say that there were very specific circumstances that caused her to feel the only choice was to quit prior to the election... Oh course she's never defected as a councillor so don't know how the 'resign and stand under your new colours' would work.

Oh course she's never defected as a councillor so don't know how the 'resign and stand under your new colours' would work. She was elected on the Labour ticket, quitting when it was too late to do anything about her decision. If she had any sense of dignity, she'd have stood down. Of course, given her "special circumstances", she wasn't much given to dignified tweets, so no real surprise.

He appears to have quit as Wales Green Party leader because the membership voted overwhelmingly to stay within the England and Wales Green Party, rather than split off into a separate Wales Green Party, over the summer. I understand he was championing the cause of separation. So it's not really a surprise to see him defecting to a Welsh Nationalist party (though it would have been more interesting to see him defecting to Ein Gwlad...)

I can't blame either, especially if they're of a libertarian bent. "Not the battle I enlisted for" is a line I will have to shamelessly pilfer.

The Libertarian Party's Midlands regional co-ordinator has confirmed Day has joined them as well. So too has Etheridge.
It's my impression, and perhaps one for a new thread, that in a number of areas Ukip has suffered a number of en bloc defections by local activists to the same party, sometimes taking the branch infrastructure with them.

Really, is this a serious party? Where was the conference, how many attended?

It was in Milton Keynes. It wasn't an AGM but a policy making affair. libertarianparty.co.uk/conference/Speakers included: "Mark Littlewood, Director of the IEA; Bill Etheridge MEP; Adam Brown, Party Leader; Cllr. Wayne Mills, Libertarian Party; Scott Neville, Hampshire Coordinator; Dan Liddicott, Midlands Coordinator; Harley Dalton, Young Libertarians Coordinator and others." And possibly Godfrey Bloom.

Wayne Mills is a councillor for Earls Barton parish. The party has no representation in local government at the principle authorities level, and has never reached 1% in any parliamentary seat they've stood in. Even with new MEP representation, I doubt they'll get anywhere - especially as said representation and the media oxygen that might come with it probably expires before the next major election.

IIRC Gavin Webb, a Lib Dem on Stoke City Council defected to them shortly before the 2015 GE at which he was supposed to be PPC in (I think, and this is really an educated guess) Lichfield. He didn’t re-fight his Council seat however so there’s no electoral history to analyse.
