One each from Tory and Labour (since you didn't mention that)

It's very 'central Scotland' that the Labour and Conservative councillors share an Orange Lodge.

Don't know if it's a defection or a mistake, but two out of the three ward councillors for Denham on South Bucks are sitting as 'Denham Conservatives' rather than being included in the main Conservative group.

If you search by party they show up as a separate group. I have emailed the council to ask.

Apparently that's what they want to be called.

A second Conservative on Enfield is now an Independent councillor - Will Coleshill (Bush Hill Park ward).

Obviously not planning on standing for re-election this year or going down to a solid defeat. Norton was one of the two Stourbridge wards I grew up in (the other being what is now Pedmore and Stourbridge East until about age 9), apart from the strange LibDem eruption for reasons we won't go into in case it attracts Messrs Sue, Grabbit and Runne, its going to be very solidly Tory for the foreseeable future as long as the councillors remain as active has they have been in the past, the only solid Labour vote being on the Shenstone Avenue estate.

The only time I’ve ever been to Dudley was a Blair/Beckett/Prescott leadership hustings meeting; had some of the best fish and chips in my life after being called paranoid by Blair.

I've been on a few occasions because of my love for Bathams & Holdens ales. I managed to combine pleasure with business in 1994 when I came to work in the Dudley West by-election, which was one of the most crushing gains inflicted by Labour ever. I had a rather testy day with a rather weird acquaintance at the Edgbaston Test in 2009 (saw Flintoff's last substantial England innings, but the last day was completely rained off) and took refuge afterwards in a superb Bathams pub in Upper Gornal (the Britannia). Bathams produce wonderful distinctive beer at their brewery in Delph, Brierley Hill, but they are only a small family firm with 10 pubs, and their beers are very hard to find dahn Sarf. Batham's is a very wise choice and I pretty much grew up on Bathams, Simpkiss (rip) and the products of the Wolverhampton & Dudley Brewery. I know the Britannia in Gornal, which is a very good pub but I can usually be found once a month or so in the Royal Exchange, Enville St, Stourbridge after visiting my remaining relatives and the cemetery. It will be Winter Warmer season soon. It is, of course, wise not to confuse the Great Maw of Dudley with what it has embraced in the Metro Borough. Residents of neither Stourbridge or Halesowen take kindly to it.

Happened a few times over the summer I understand at different Bathams houses. We were all in there in June and there was no mild. There are no good pubs left in Norton ward now - the New Inns will do in a pinch - but that was always the case. But the Shrubbery Cottage is on the boundary.

Batham's mild is overshadowed by the famous bitter, but is a fine beer in its own right. I tend to drink it in the Bull and Bladder on my visits after playing in concerts nearby. I can also recommend Holden's mild quite strongly. When growing up, we lived next door to Teddy Holden snr, the then proprietor of the brewery, in a quiet lane north of Dudley. Our house was No 31. His was No 21, being an imposing pile that spanned the width of five plots. I don't think it's there now, though our old house still is.

Some excellent comments above. I too am a Mild drinker & have greatly enjoyed Bathams & Holdens ones - if anything the latter even more. (Simpkiss didn't do a mild in my day, perhaps they did once.) Happily my regular pub in Brentford usually offers one, most often Harveys (which I really like) or Triple fff. As a London resident I am very lucky to have such a pub as a regular. The Hon. Member for Brentford & Isleworth sometimes drops in but usually has Draught Bass when she does - it's in the ward she represented as a councillor. Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild is also wonderful stuff. It's a shame that my visits to the Black Country have been so infrequent over the years. Simpkiss did have a mild, but discontinued it in about 1981, as it was selling poorly in their small estate of pubs. The bitter was quite decent, but they got taken over by Greenalls in the mid eighties and were shut down almost immediately. The pub in front of the old brewery still survives, it's the New Wellington in Brettell Lane, Brierley Hill, also known as the Foley Arms for a while.

I'm not seeing any evidence Heather Rogers has actually joined the Labour Party or the Labour group. Seems to be simply voting, as an Independent councillor, in support of the administration.

I have had some excellent beers in Dudley- I had a six week stint there when at the DWP. Also excellent fish and chips, once I'd got over the shock of chips being orange.
