Honour is ever green was our take on it, but officially the more concise Honour Flourishes. I am on granola am and soup pm. Are you on warm water and a wafer? Nothing until this afternoon due to work (I am not a breakfast fan, so bearable), some cereal and then an egg this evening. In bed now. "Flourishes" - obvious now I think of it. Enjoy!

While I suspect Buffaloes are of all political persuasions, I did know one Conservative buffalo who couldn't accept his Bi son

Still in existence as a friendly society. My local was formerly used a meeting place for the Odd Fellows (the Manchester Unity ones) and has as its logo their crest.

At one time in Pendle there were as many Buffaloes as Freemasons but they seem to have gone away now. The working class Northern version. My dad was one in his younger years...,.known as the Buffs

Suppose one of the mason councillors was standing as a chairman of a committee. Did the other masons of different parties back him? I rather think party trumped masonry. Within groups - who knows? Since we only had one it didn't arise with us.

The Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes used to have a lodge that met in the George and Dragon pub in Heaton Chapel. I'd never heard of them so was fascinated by the name...still am. Their motto - No Man Is At All Times Wise - seems quite sensible. That should be on the wall of every council chamber, in big letters.

Conspiracy or conspiracy theories?
Well,
During my railway career there was one member of staff who was incompetent, rude (to bosses & colleagues) and obnoxious. But kept getting promoted rather than sacked. Word was he was on the square.
During my council career a councillor submitted a planning application on some land he owned which was open countryside, Area of Special Landscape Value, flood plain etc etc etc The only member of our group he lobbied* was his fellow-mason.
Just saying.
* He shouldn't, of course, have been lobbying any councillors. He was a very naughty boy.
