At one time in Pendle there were as many Buffaloes as Freemasons but they seem to have gone away now. Thirty thousand once roamed across the plains of Trafalgar Square...

I didn't realise this forum was such a hotbed of conspiracy theory fans. Do you know anything about freemasonry? More than I want to.

Suppose one of the mason councillors was standing as a chairman of a committee. Did the other masons of different parties back him? It depends which squares they were standing on at the time? And whether their aprons were back from the wash?

The Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes used to have a lodge that met in the George and Dragon pub in Heaton Chapel. I'd never heard of them so was fascinated by the name...still am.

The Buffs used to have a huge banner on the front of the now-departed Warrington Railway Club (or whatever it was called), I'd never heard of them before.

Nemo Mortalium Omnibus Horis Sapit, I think is better translated as "No man is wise at all hours" or "No man is at all hours wise", so hours rather than times. I am guessing, given the jocularity of the founders, that it has a double meaning of "No man is wise all the time" and "No man is wise if in his cups", or "up all hours". I may be overthinking this, but Ash Wednesday fasting drives me spare so I need something to concentrate the mind.

There used to be a Buff Club in Plymouth, basically a social club on North Hill.

From Virgil: "Et simili frondescit virga metallo" "And a new twig shoots forth leaves of the same metal" from Publii Virgilii Maronis Opera. So "Honour shoots forth leaves?"..... Guessing it is a motto of some sort. Maybe "Honour always grows"? See....Hunger and tiredness makes me reach for the Latin grammar.

Honour is ever green was our take on it, but officially the more concise Honour Flourishes. I am on granola am and soup pm. Are you on warm water and a wafer?

Nothing until this afternoon due to work (I am not a breakfast fan, so bearable), some cereal and then an egg this evening. In bed now. "Flourishes" - obvious now I think of it.
