Harry was making a rather silly point about Sinn Fein and a Remain alliance - in that context they are irrelvant.

Apparently Wollaston is very close to switching to the LD's. Basically the local party needs persuading a tad.

The Guardian claim she will only stand if the Greens agree to stand aside. It claims she wants a unity candidate and will get out of the way if necessary. I’m not sure what issues the Greens would have with her personally (her anti alternative medicine views etc?) and I’m not sure who would be a better unity candidate than the incumbent MP.

I imagine they have designs on Totnes, albeit based on the reputation of its eponymous main settlement.

I imagine they have designs on Totnes, albeit based on the reputation of its eponymous main settlement. But the reports say that Wollaston would not be the candidate if the Greens didn’t agree to stand aside for her specifically i.e. she wants them to stand down for a pro-Remain candidate, ideally her, but someone else if necessary. If the Greens plan on standing either way then Wollaston may as well be the candidate, but there seems to be an assumption they will be standing aside one way or another.

I imagine that they may also have reservations about backing someone who was a Conservative MP until a few months ago. I don't know what the local issues are, but at least nationally, the idea of the Greens as potentially part of a centrist bloc is relatively novel.

Well they do appear to have succumbed to being the radical wing of the LibDems. Their critique of globalisation seems to have gone out of the window too

It's pretty weak, intellectually, and they deserve no credit for it. Obviously this is part of the bigger picture of not criticising globalisation.

To read Lucas or Scott Cato's articles in the Graun, you'd think they'd never had any sort of critique of the EU, rather than churning out quite a bit of it down the years (especially Lucas).

I think Green Leaves is a bigger movement within the Greens than Liberal Leave is within the LibDems, so they're not as far down the rabbit hole.

Had the constituency been called Brixham, I could imagine that the same pundits who keep talking about it as a Green target would have been talking about it as a UKIP target when such things existed.

Did the co-operative survive?

Those with long memories will recall that Emma Nicholson (another Devon MP) defected from the Tories to the Lib Dems in 1995.
