... I thought you meant they were heading to the polls today Sorry....not today. Not sure when actually, it's a most unusally worded Notice of Vacancy, there's no 'an election will be held if two electors....' bit missing from it. I'm putting 2 and 2 together to guess it's due to a resignation as well.

All these resignations are timed so that the byelections will be held on May 2nd . I am not sure if 2 electors could sabotage that plan by calling for a slightly earlier byelection .

What interested me was the casual vacancies going back to November that haven't been called yet. Are they down to a convention where the loosing party calls the election or local apathy?

A little from column a, a little from column b..... Sometimes electoral officers and councillors agree not to call elections before May (as happened with us once. You could probably hear the electoral officer scream from the other side of town as we walked in with two-signatures which would have meant a by-election on Christmas week. Funnily enough, it was agreed to wait a bit after talks.....) There's the apathy element too, but it's not much that as general ignorance about the power being available.

Another resignation Hannah David , Conservative councillor for Borehamwood Hillside ward on Hertsmere BC Presumably to concentrate on fighting Harrow West. Seems a bit unnecessary

Seems a bit unnecessary I wonder if her plan includes being seledted in a Harrow ward for 2014 locals. I guess some selections may start soon and being a sitting Cllr in another borough isn't probably a vote winner in trying to be selected in another city.

Probably had enough of Borehamwood. Don't blame her.

Perhaps we should just list the councillors that haven't resigned this week!

I presume that means he's also standing down from the County Council. Which is a shame, as he's supposed to be extremely knowledgeable about education issues.

Not according to the story - he's standing down from the district to concentrate on his role at the county. (Although that is rather to assume that he will be re-elected in May)
