...which leaves one remaining result I can't find, for Eye ward in Mid Suffolk. This has been reported as a Conservative gain from Independent with 438 votes, but I have no further details.

Burnley Mayoral Referendum
A borough-wide referendum on whether Burnley Borough Council should continue to be run by a Leader, or change to a Directly Elected Mayor, was held on Thursday 4th May 2017.
The result was as follows:
The ballot paper asked how you would like the council to be run in the future:
By a leader who is elected councillor chosen by a vote of the other elected councillors. This is how the council is run now - 10,986 votes
By a Mayor who is elected by voters. This would be a change from how the council is run now - 8,694 votes
As a result the council will continue to be run by a leader who is an elected councillor chosen by a vote of other elected councillors.

Of the 23 by-election seats that changed hands on 4 May, 12 were in previously "split" wards: - 3 of the 9 Conservative gains from Labour - all 3 Conservative gains from the Liberal Democrats, although the Conservatives did not have a Councillor in one before - a Conservative gain from UKIP and another from an Independent - 3 of the Conservative 6 losses were in "split" wards, 2 to the Liberal Democrats and 1 to an Independent Group - the sole Labour gain on the day was in a "split" ward where UKIP previously held a seat.
Two of the Conservative losses, one to Liberal Democrats and another to Independent, reversed gains made in 2015. A further 2 Conservatives gains were in single member wards with electorates less than around 2,000
The remaining 6 Conservative gains were all in wards where Labour had previously held all the seats.
The Green Councillor who narrowly gained a seat from a Conservative in Craven is a General Election candidate in Skipton & Ripon where the Liberal Democrats are not fielding a candidate but supporting the Green.

C hold W Somerset, Minehead N C 410 LD 217 Lab 104 Ind 67 National Bocialist 0 I must confess that with all the other stuff going on I had missed all the excellent service reporting results from the byelections on 4 May, above all by Andrew Teale. (Don't know how you tag names, otherwise I'd do so). I know that the National Bocialist is a Monty Python reference, so I presume no Loony type actually stood, and this is just a rather good joke on Andrew's part? But here's a thing - would anyone have been allowed to use that label (or the one they were satirising)?

But here's a thing - would anyone have been allowed to use that label (or the one they were satirising)? Since the Registration of Political Parties Act 1998 (and certainly since the follow-up PPERA in 2000), I think any candidate wishing to use that label would probably have to register it as a party name or a valid ballot description beforehand. I believe UKIP won the County Council seat covering that area in 2013. Some would say that's a case of life imitating art?

As the forum's expert Register of Political Parties poster , I can confirm that yes, they would have to register, and at the moment no party currently has!

That's a broad definition of the term 'elected'. Which is apt if we're talking about National Bocialists, I suppose.

'Elected' is the term used regardless of whether the election was contested
