No Labour gains in these results (so far) but is it right to say there have been pro-Labour swings in every Tory vacancy??

Quite a contrast between the DC and CC results in Norfolk - not that I am complaining too much, given the latter

The contrast obviously being accounted for by the relative salience of the incinerator issue (and in as much as it was salient in the district election, the Tory candidate was on the 'right' side of the argument (as is the local Tory controlled district council))

The district and county wards are adjacent, but not overlapping. It is likely the local Labour party decided to prioritize the county seat at the expense of the district seat.

No though they border each other though. Spellowfield is some way from the site of the incinerator but it does appear to be a brough wide issue. However I think its quite clear that the Tory leadership of the local council and the local TYory MP have been actively opposing the incinerator and it is the county council who are the villains of the piece

Also of course they are very different kinds of wards, Spellowfields being pretty rural while the county seat as the name implies is heavily inflluenced by Kings Lynn. The swing has to be seen in the context that that in the district seat is from 2011 while the county is from 2009. The Labour vote there in 2009 was absurdly low and clearly the 2005 vote is a more realistic base from which to gauge 'normal' Labour strength in the area
