"The African National Congress could spend the next five years as the opposition in Gauteng’s metros, according to talk within ruling party circles after four days of coalition negotiations.
Leaks from both ANC and Democratic Alliance ranks increasingly point to a DA-Economic Freedom Fighters coalition in the province.
A source close to the ANC said on Wednesday afternoon that EFF “attitudes are hardening” following a meeting between ANC leaders and EFF leader Julius Malema. Both parties had not confirmed details of the meeting."

How long could such a coalition realistically last though? In other news, the ANC are dissatisfied with proportional representation. They would have majorities in Pretoria, Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth if it were FPTP (even though they came second in Pretoria and Port Elizabeth). I wonder what they'd say if FPTP led to a white minority winning an election outright.

It will be a sign of whether the anc is truly bankrupt and beyond salvation if they look to change the electoral system a result of getting only 55%.

The FF Plus did sell out to the ANC for a bit, for what it's worth.

That's just the logic of electoral politics in South Africa. Social and economic liberalism may be popular in Europe and in the European diaspora but it holds no appeal for the majority of the South African population. I'm not sure if it has much appeal beyond parts of the Jewish and Anglo communities there. Let us not pretend that most White Africans are anything other politically than what they are... Well those two parties are both considerably worse than the ANC which is saying something.

lol@you if you think that South African voters - of any race are crying out for liberalism. Even among the Anglos (i.e. the last defenders of the National Party).

Well those two parties are both considerably worse than the ANC which is saying something. In what way are they worse than the ANC? Both would run a clientelist government catering and channeling money to a unique ethnic group, like Lutfur Rahman in Tower Hamlets (Afrikaners for FF+, Zulus for IFP). Despite all its faults, ANC (and DA) doesn't seek to represent one group only.

Obviously you would vote VF+ because your views are what they are. But let's not pretend that they have any sort of moral high ground; they are clientelist scum like everyone else. It was more the Inkatha thing that caused spluttering and laughter.
