The French don't have PR; a pre-requisite for an orderly transition into a proper democracy. the UK is a proper democracy, oldest in the world. Just needs some tweaking. Like perhaps the abolition of the House of Lords and the public guillotining of all hereditary peers in Trafalgar Square?

Has Ireland rejoined the UK without me noticing then? The Republic of Ireland is not a foreign country: Ireland Act 1949 s. 2(1). But it is a republic and not a member of the Commonwealth. That's quite foreign...

I hear walls are coming back into fashion now... You would have to transfer Havering into Essex first, of course Behold! The gift of prophecy!

We are in Peoples Front of Judaea territory. I think Melenchon is likely to be the front runner as the left regroup. I think this has been done to try and keep Macron in the picture.. .. ngl, if I were in France atm I'd probably be giving passive approval to macron as he's the only non right winger that seems to have his shit together. I think Melenchon is to left wing to unite whats left of the left under one banner. You still want this chaos to happen in the UK? Well, the left is already souring on him, with his "labour market" reforms. There will be no union as long Macron is popular, but once he is not (and it will happen, incumbents are never popular in France)....

I wouldn't support Macron - never have and never will and everything he does simply confirms that's the best approach to take. I think Macron is centre right - a Liberal. And France needs a proper left not something based on the centre which will be utterly discredited under Macron anyway. I dislike centrist politics.

Given that Melenchon made his name in business, and benefited from some deregulation to make it happen, I'd be shocked if he were the great Leftist some imagine.
That and he is a massive prick.

The traditional Right are not as economically right-wing as the lefties. Does anyone here remember ultra-libertarian Sabine Herold, who was The Future? Her mob vanished into Nouveau Centre, and her fella ended up working for the hunting and fishing party.

Wasn't she the subject of a gushing feature in the Telegraph around 2003 where she was referred to as France's Thatcher? I seem to recall sitting in the Black Buoy one afternoon getting hammered with some of the university Labour Club and chuckling about it.

Featured at the bottom of the page of my desk diary- something I was previously unaware of. Contains scenes of revolutionary violence... (incidentally Marat was in his bath because of his skin condition which had forced him to spend most of his time there).
