Labour won Altofts, with 467 votes to UKIP's 216. Former Normanton Mayor Audrey Wood is now back on Normanton TC. Looking for positives in defeat, at 31.6% that's the highest % UKIP has ever managed in an election within Wakefield district, and in the ward of Wakefield Council Leader Peter Box no less. and if there had been Conservative , Lib Dem and Independent candidates they might have got 3.1% As we got 24% in the equivalent district ward in May, with a Tory candidate standing, I highly doubt that.

But not in the part of the ward where Box lives. So? It's still the ward he represents.

Tendring, St Bartholomews: Residents 1,042 - 87.8% Conservative 145 - 12.2% Quite an impressive win for the Residents there........ A bit disappointing Labour didn't stand again (after doing so in the March vacancy) who knows, we might have got second ;D

Mark probably meant that the Lib Dem candidate would have got 3.1% - he has always been prone to optimism on behalf of his own party

Hoskers/Hart Common is around 1/3rd of the Westhoughton South ward on Bolton MBC which the LDs won in 2006 and 2008 . and came fairly close this May . David Wilkinson , the winner of the TC byelection was the LD councillor from 2008 to this May . It is strange that the LD's had not previously put much effort into Town Council elections in Westhoughton .

It's Westhoughton, what do you expect? I find the place baffling, but admittedly I very rarely go beyond the Chequerbent roundabout. That's Wingates ward as in Wingates Band by the way, one of the finest brass bands in the country.
