Valley Hill - King’s Lynn and West Norfolk DC - Mike Tilbury (Independent) died. He was a councillor since 1973 (for Massingham until 1983), being elected as Labour until 2003 (expect in 1973, where he was Independent). He is a former Council Leader and former mayor. He was also the Labour candidate for North West Norfolk in 1983. During his life, he was probation officer, solicitor and firefighter.
2015: Ind 899, Con 466 2011: Ind 766, Con 238 2007: Ind 597, Con 299 2003: Ind 701, Con 344, Lab 97
Andrew Carr (UK Independence Party (UKIP)) Michael De Whalley (Green Party) Edward Robb (Labour Party) Kate Sayer (Liberal Democrats) Tim Tilbrook (The Conservative Party Candidate)

Notable that Labour didn't oppose him. Did he vote with Labour? 2003 was the year where people resigned over Iraq.

Well they did oppose him in 2003 and got 97 votes which probably explains why they didn't bother in future years.

I recall a similar situation in Huddersfield when a former Tory stood as an Independent. She lost to Labour but kept the bulk of the Tory vote.

I recall a similar situation in Huddersfield when a former Tory stood as an Independent. She lost to Labour but kept the bulk of the Tory vote. There are a couple of other examples that spring to mind. 1. Anne Dale (Stocksfield and Broomhaugh, Northumberland UA). Elected Conservative in 2008 in 49% of the vote, left the conservatives, stood as an Independent in 2013 and got 73% of the vote (The conservatives only got 17%). 2. Jim Ryan (Bickenhill, Solihull MBC), has won elections in this ward standing as a Labour candidate, Independent candidate and Conservative candidate. Winning elections for the same ward under 3 different party/non-party labels is very impressive.

For many years the lowest ever Labour percentage of the vote in a Parliamentary election was when an official candidate was put up against Jimmy Maxton (ILP) in Glasgow Bridgeton in 1935.

I thought the lowest percentage was 2.4% in the Isle of Wight in 1983?

It was widely reported as such, but Bridgeton was actually lower. Of course both "records" have since been broken.
