Why the lack of names for some authorities?

Why the lack of names for some authorities? Suspect it was because the safe Conservative authorities weren't particularly worth bothering with. You can find the list and the name given by the report on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redcliffe-Maud_Report.

Thanks. I've actually got a copy somewhere, I need to dig it out as I've never read it properly.

Why the lack of names for some authorities? They weren't interested in them because they were solid Tory, but you can see what the numbers represent at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redcliffe-Maud_ReportI'm just old enough to remember talk of "Selnec" but the mythical beast was soon slain.

I sometimes wonder how Humberside ever got past the drawing board, among those particular proposed authorities (which became a real one in time, of course).
There is in fact no real connection between Grimsby/Cleethorpes/Scunthorpe and Hull/Beverley/Howdenshire. Goole's connections lay with the Selby and Pontefract areas, as did its transport links, and it should never have been moved into the Humberside area especially as it was in the West Riding of Yorkshire, not the East Riding. Goole has no real connection with 'Howdenshire' or any part of Lincolnshire as far as I know.

Goole has no real connection with 'Howdenshire' or any part of Lincolnshire as far as I know. And bear in mind that when Humberside came into existence they didn't even have the Humber bridge (it didn't open until 1981). Yes but the go ahead was given during the 1966 Hull North by-election. The bridge and the creation of Humberside County were all part of the Regional plan for the industrial areas of Hull and North Lincolnshire. There was little economic interaction before 1981 as it was a 50 mile trip by road from Hessle to Barton on Humber. The only connection was a single boat ferry that was often disrupted by adverse weather. It did have an all day drinking licence though! It was felt, by successive Governments, that the North and South Humberside areas were economically complementary and both would benefit by integration. This view was popular in Hull but not in Lincolnshire. One benefit that Lincolnshire gained was the creation of the University of Lincoln. This was formerly COLSH college in Hull. The College moved to first to Polytechnic status and to University status all within a couple of years. Initially a Lincoln campus was opened and then the college moved lock stock and barrel. It is now one of the biggest employers in Lincoln, if not the biggest.

Does anybody here have a copy of the Redcliffe-Maud report they could send me? There is a map on the Wikipedia article but it is not very detailed.

Perhaps the place to state that, upon my arrival in Cheadle Hulme, Stepney posted me a photocopied map of the Redcliffe-Maud Mega-Stockport proposal. It was much appreciated.
