There was also various allegations that Progress stacked the shortlist, forced a very short election period and said to the branch (which was unwilling to pick any of the shortlisted) that a candidate would be imposed if not. Suspect a big part of the left-wing of the party voted Green in protest (and they can hardly be blamed, if the allegations are true). Sounds like Lambeth Labour Party..... Probably connected, I'm reading some comments on Twitter that Lambeth Momentum endorsed and campaigned for the Greens.

Wow. Must admit I chortled a bit when I saw Hedgehogs prediction there but he must have been closer than most of us I felt the referendum would push the UKIP vote in Basildon and Lincs, one out of two right there, and was sure we would do well in Gipsy Hill, great campaigns on libraries and housing getting some good coverage didn't see us getting 42% and losing though.

Great campaign in Gipsy Hill and almost made it. There can't have been many 7 way contests where one of the losing candidates gets 42% of the vote. And while it may be in the London Borough of Lambeth, this area is as close to Croydon as it is to Lambeth itself, so is hardly part of the area we would expect to poll well in.

These comments got me to look at the Momentum website. It very clearly states that its members will campaign for Labour candidates, and emphasises this numerous times. Should be interesting...

The fact remains that Lambeth council's policy on library closures is extremely unpopular. And this sort of thing has hurt Labour in council elections before.

The Labour candidate tweeted that he had lost more than half an hour ago. Presumably this is all down to libraries going by what a friend of mine put on Facebook earlier who lives in Gipsy Hill. Seems like Lambeth Labour are returning to type... Libraries, and also a large estate in the ward being potentially subject to demolition and rebuild.
