It is Stapenhill rather than Staplehill.
There was a by-election in the ward in Sept 2005 due to the resignation of a Labour councillor following his arrest for criminal damage, assault and actual bodily harm against an 83 year old neighbour. Lab 624 Con 268 UKIP 45

Anyone know how things are going in Northallerton? I know life moves a little slowly in that part of the world.
Hambleton district council started a twitter account in 2009 but stopped using it in July last year.

They used to count general elections the next day, but in 2001 William Hague bullied them into counting overnight. The returning officer retaliated by under-staffing and counting Richmond and Vale of York in one room. I think it was gone 4pm when it finished, leaving William Hague very little time and little sleep to get to London to announce his resignation as Tory leader.

Northallerton County result:
Conservative 654 Ukip 278 Labour 233 Yorkshire First 131 Green 58
District result due in about half an hour, I'm told
EDIT: The above doesn't quite correspond to the percentage result I've been sent. Assuming the percentages are right I suspect one of those figures might be just a little bit off.

Have sent a tweet to North Yorkshire to ask if they will be announcing the result today. Expecting a reply three weeks on Tuesday, probably via carrier pigeon!
