The first ten UK constituencies to see a saved Green Party deposit (outside the Vauxhall by-election of 1989) back in 2001: Bradford West (the first seat to see a Green Party candidate poll ahead of a candidate from the "big three") Brighton Pavilion Dulwich & West Norwood Edinburgh Central Hackney North & Stoke Newington Holborn & St Pancras Hornsey & Wood Green Islington North Leeds West Lewisham Deptford Interesting, why was the vote so strong in Bradford West that year? I see you've not been in the top 4 there, since. I think it might have been an ethnicity reason

Great fun.
The world 'communism' seems to have been first used by Labour's Commander Kenworthy, MP for Hull Central on the 13th of August 1919.
The word 'Blancmange' by Edward Mallalieu, Labour MP for Colne Valley on the 9th of March 1933.

It is good fun, but the communism one is almost certainly wrong, as the site states its records only go back to 1919.

I believe Cmdr Kenworthy was a Liberal at the time, later of course he was the 10th Baron Strabolgi.

I believe Cmdr Kenworthy was a Liberal at the time, later of course he was the 10th Baron Strabolgi. Yes, he defected in 1926 and resigned to fight a by-election as a Labour candidate. Labour hadn't stood in the constituency before, although Fred Maddison stood as a "Lib-Lab" in 1892 and 1895.

Strabolgi sounds like something from Transylvania. Was he a vampire? How would we know? It is named after Strathbogie in Aberdeenshire. So how come Strathbogie turned into Strabolgi? That's a very strange spelling by somebody, would love to know how that transpired. Edit: Having looked it up. I see the title goes back to the fourteenth century, when spelling would have been a lot more ,well, flexible, so less surprising than I thought.
