The Graun seem to be wetting themselves about this. Curiously the line of "we shouldn't have to subsidise poorer regions" is going down well at Grauniad Towers.

I'm glad they didnt get too near 50%, and slightly bemused that the separatists are still claiming that 47% is a mandate for UDI, lol!

Realistically the only sensible way forward would be for the Spanish and Catalan Governments to negotiate terms for a legally binding referendum.

The EU doesnt negotiate with seceeding states it starts negotiations when they are independent. Made quite clear in the Scottish referendum. |

Its not a ringing endorsement of the union, and the parties favouring UDI got just under 50% of the vote, parties backing a referendum on it got around 11% - with probably at least 50% of the people supporting them wanting independence. |
