The only people who are confused by such things, and who end up voting for the "wrong" party as a result, are insane scum who have not been paying attention and who incorrectly do not take a reasonable level of interest in such elections. Their nincompoopness is a discourtesy and a provocative act of impertinence to the rest of us normal people, and if their votes are unwittingly subverted into the wrong direction, it is no more than they deserve.

Didn't Keith Bradley complain that part of the reason he lost to John Leech in Withington in 2005 was that people had voted for Karen Bradley in error? I wonder if anyone mistook the independent candidate Yasmin Zalzaza for the UKIP candidate Robert Gutfreund-Walmsley?

I assume you are definitely NOT in favour of complusary voting laws then?

I wrote that comment before reading the link. But now that I have done so, it is clear that the whole bit of research is flawed. It is based on showing a voter a leaflet for a particular political party, and then asking them to vote for that party. The first time they see the list of parties standing is when they see the ballot paper. In real life, of course, everybody* will have seen the list of parties (and various leaflets) long before they even go into the polling station, and will have familiarised themselves with the various different combinations of parties which are standing with similar names of the type that are featured in the research. * except for the stupid impertinent people abovementioned
