I think the point is that it will be a seperate referendum, with the possibility of a different outcome ?

Having a quick read it looks like an overnight count (unlike 1975 when the count was held the following day)

Having a quick read it looks like an overnight count (unlike 1975 when the count was held the following day) An overnight count would be useful for market purposes. Exit poll would be available before opening, and if a close result was likely we could see a wildly fluctuating market as the result came in. Has there been any discussion about holding the referendum on a Friday? Would give a couple of days for the result to set in before markets open, and would give the government time to present a response.

They have ruled out May 2016. I think May 2017 is still possible though.
