On Wednesday, when I was doing my shopping in Aberaeron, I came across a book called "The Constitutional Year Book 1936" in a second hand book shop that had details of the 1924, 1929, 1931 and 1935 general elections and seeing as I have the information for all the general elections since 1950 it made a great deal of sense to extend backwards my collection. It may have cost £25 but I think that was a very good investment. I am currently just tallying Wales (but will gradually extend it to the whole of the United Kingdom). In the meantime here's Wales 1924 and 1929

Labour 313,297 votes (41%) winning 16 seats
Liberals 232,109 votes (31%) winning 11 seats
Conservative 215,690 votes (28%) winning 9 seats
Wales 1929
Labour 578,225 votes (44% +3%) winning 25 seats (+9)
Liberals 442,623 votes (34% +3%) winning 10 seats (-1)
Conservatives 289,736 votes (22% -6%) winning 1 seat (-8)
Communists 8,143 votes (1%) winning 0 seats
Plaid Cymru 609 votes (0%) winning 0 seats
Swing: 0% from Lab to Lib, 4.5% from Con to Lab, 4.5% from Con to Lib

The Constitutional Year Book was a Conservative Party publication - which is why its covers are royal blue. It ran from the 1880s until publication was suspended after 1939, never to resume. The election results section is of high quality and is useful as a check on occasions when there are questions over the official status of a conservative-allied candidate.
It is also one of the very few sources for the partisan affiliation of members of the House of Lords.

Wales 1929Plaid Cymru 609 votes (0%) winning 0 seats Plaid Cymru's first parliamentary contest - Caernarfonshire. Beti Jones' book Etholiadau'r Ganrif Welsh Elections 1885-1997 is useful reference for, obviously, all Welsh parliamentary elections between those dates. |

Indeed, and the first edition "Welsh Elections 1885 - 1974" is what got me started (in fact I have even broached the idea with Roger Scully of the University of Wales of going the whole hog and going back to 1832 and include the 2016 Assembly elections as well |

Also includes the three referendums - 1975, 1979 and 1997 - as well as maps for the boundary changes throughout the period and Euro election results.

I have unfortunately never had the time to dig deep into many of their spectacular book shops, but I could truly spend all my time in them! |

Last time I went to Hay-on-Wye I came back with (very good quality) copies of 'Wales at Westminster' by Arnold J. Jones and John E. Thomas, which contains all Parliamentary election results from 1800 to 1979, and 'Union to Reform' by the same authors, which contains election results from 1536 to 1832.
Both contain much excellent analysis but I fear they mean that the project of gathering all Welsh election material into one series of books has already been achieved.

Have to be careful with the Liberals in 1931. The official Liberal Party at the time counted the 'Liberal Nationals' (NB not 'National Liberals' until 1948) as part of the party; and the 'Independent Liberals' were all official candidates even though they were in opposition.

I have to admit they seemed expensive to me on my student grant, but I had few vices then (apart from pinball) and treated myself..... |

I have a set of four FWS Craig volumes from 1832 to 1970. I was given them unexpectedly after I had gone to give a talk on electoral systems to a class of sixth-form politics students at a school where the teacher was an old friend I knew from University. For whatever reason, the school happened to have a whole cupboardful of several sets. Before then, I used to go to the library whenever I needed to look up result sin them.
