I am sure somebody on here can help. I believe that the 1951-1955 Parliament was dissolved on 6 May 1955. Various sources have that Norwich South, the seat of Henry George Strauss was vacant at dissolution, for the reasons that he had been raised to the Peerage as Baron Conesford. However, it seems that he was not raised to the Peerage until 12 May 1955 which was after dissolution which would mean that the seat was not vacant. I have two sources for this date. thepeerage.com/p31836.htm#i318353www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/40481/page/2877Therefore my question is this: At what point does a seat become vacant on elevation to a peerage, is it immediately when the announcement has been made that it is going to happen, or when it actually happens? I have always thought the latter. Please help. Thanks
