So....if George Galloway loses in Bradford on May 7th and nominations here close on May 14th... I had thought the same, but given his previous tenure as an MP, he may not be that popular even with the forces of THF.

How many if any ward level elections will be re-run here? Has only one Cllr been forced to resign so far?

No elections will be rerun anywhere because there is no such thing.
No councillor has been forced to resign anywhere because there is no such thing.

That seems to me as clear as mud! Are Tower Hamlets ward elections from 2014 void or just the Mayoral?

There will however be one council by election because Rahman's agent was a councillor.

Had to laugh at the Notice of Election. Mayor of Tower Hamlets. Number to be elected: One. Well that's a relief, one mayor seems to be enough of a handful.

Can't help but think that what they need to do is get rid of the mayor. Too much power in one persons hands and little real ability to do anything about it.
The danger will be if the re-run becomes a Bangla vs White communal affair.

Earliest they could do that is 2020. You are not allowed to revote on an elected mayor for 10 years after holding a referendum.

In both cases I believe after more than 10 years.
The legislation is the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007, section 69.

So....if George Galloway loses in Bradford on May 7th and nominations here close on May 14th... Does he still own property in the borough? I believe he can acquire residency at Flat 16, Prioress House, E1 anytime he likes

The by-election has been formally set for June 11th 2015, therefore could I ask that the thread title be amended to reflect this information

It is a byelection. Elections caused by the ordinary election being declared void are byelections.

It is not. A by election is an election to fill a casual vacancy. If an election is voided, it is regarded as never having taken place (Commissioner Mawrey is quite clear on this point in his judgment). How can you have a casual vacancy when the election never took place?
