Sadly I'm not surprised that we don't have a candidate here, but I am very surprised that there is no UKIP candidate. I would have thought that Rhyl was potentially very fertile ground for them.

Having had a look at the census stats for the preview, this bit of Rhyl in particular should be good Kipper territory.

I maybe wrong, but my impression is there has been a slight drop-off in the number of Kipper candidates generally in recent weeks. Maybe they're focussing more on the GE?

Don't you just love Wales.

It's a shame that they took the rusting ferris wheel down a few years ago. It was a magnificently Lynchian thing and added to the character of the town.

Well it seems we have a candidate, which is a step forward.

I assume yes, and the county council has a results page up (https://moderngov.denbighshire.gov.uk/mgElectionAreaResults.aspx?ID=324&RPID=1589513&LLL=0) but there's nothing saying so directly.

Oh no, you aren't saying that they've taken the ship away? That's genuinely upsetting news.

I have checked and double checked my figure but although it is late I think the Britain Elects changes since 2012 are not right.
The Britain Elects figures regards the two Independents standing in 2012 as separate "parties" whereas my figures above regard them as being in the same "party".
In 2012 there were 1,134 valid ballot papers, giving a total of 2,268 potential valid votes. In practice there were 2,052 votes counted, or 90½% of the potential, a reasonably expected proportion. Taking the Independents as separate "parties" gives the "top" total votes as 1,309 whereas taking them as the same "party" gives the "top" total as 1,168. On "average" votes, separate "parties" would give a total of 1,203 whereas same "party" is 1,062, compared to an actual 1,134 valid ballot papers.
I consider taking them as the same "party" is the most realistic method in this particular case.

I'm surprised UKIP didn't have a candidate - isn't Rhyl supposed to be the Welsh equivalent of Clacton?
