Labour council leader claiming in the local paper that we want to "rig the system" by having a boundary review. He's a total joke.

Labour council leader claiming in the local paper that we want to "rig the system" by having a boundary review. He's a total joke. Dont you know that dividing the liberal democrat wards cleanly between three seats ignoring local connections is the only non rigged system? . A Newcastle Great North Road seat sounds fun. Get the Jesmonds, Dene, N Heaton, Gosforth, Parklands and Castle into one seat.

I did make a joke in 2004 that Labour's boundary would involve their leader of council's house having two wards to itself (i.e. first floor and second floor).

Well despite our glorious leader's comments the Local Government Boundary Commission have decided a review will take place. In a letter to all candidates the council have written that the Commission are have told them that there will be an all-out election in 2018. Obviously, this will shorten terms for those councillors elected in 2015 and 2016 (no elections in 2017).

Plans for council size (but not boundaries) should be published next week. Boundaries will be decided sometime next year.

Hmm, seeing as the unitaries/Mets/London Boroughs with similar populations to Newcastle have between 54 and 65 councillors I don't know what the complaint is (nor do they appear to be entirely populated by old white men...).

The latest update will be released at midnight on the council website. I'm not optimistic as I'm hearing the Boundary Commission have been pretty erratic on this.
As an update it's back to 78. The Boundary Commission have lost all credibility by going from back to the original 78 from going down to 66.
