Assuming that Kujundzic's 6% vote share end up with Grabar-Kitarovic, it could well be down to how Sincic's votes split that decides the outcome of the 2nd round. Are they identifiably a centre-left or centre-right block?

Sincic is if anything hard left, though also socially conservative on some issues like abortion.
The consensus seems to be that their vote will strongly back the more "leftist" candidate (ie Josipovic) in the run off.

looks like Croatia is about to get its first female President. A lot of people suggesting that diaspora votes from Bosnia could have swung it for the HDZ.

I wonder why Istria is such a stronghold for the left, in contrast with most of the Dalmation coast

I wonder why Istria is such a stronghold for the left, in contrast with most of the Dalmation coast Istria has a strong autonomist movement and many people there consider themselves Istrians, not Croatians and there is a few minorities (Italians, Slovenes). Region is ruled by regionalists since a long time and all regionalist parties are or were allied with the left. The HDZ is unpalatable to them due to its past and it was very stongly opposed to hard nationalist Tudman (the autonomist idea of equal status for Croatian and Italian in Istria wasn't acceptable to Tudman). HDZ had 12% in Istria at last legislative election, while polling 23% nationwide. So, it's not as much left-wing than it's opposed to HDZ.

Bring back the Republic of Ragusa! But the Ottomans are not longer there to prop it up. Charming place, spent a lovely week there, they really don't like Serbs much.
