No Dimbleby but “Arthur” is apparently returning for the Beeb’s coverage. Huw Edwards will be the main presenter. First time since October 1974 that it has been someone other than Dimbleby. Jeremy Vine will once again be the swingometer person, as I'm sure everyone will be utterly delighted to hear. Well, early night then ...

The BBC Election 2019 programme will also feature the return of classic election theme tune, Rick Wakeman’s 'Arthur', in a newly remixed version.
Apparently BBC Parliament has the fastest rising audience of any BBC channel, or so they just claimed just there on live TV. Political geeks of the world rejoice! Hah.

It would be nice if David Dimbleby appeared on the show as a guest at some point but it's probably unlikely. David Butler did make an appearance last time IIRC.

Have most of the BBC election night shows from YouTube disappeared? I watched 1997 and 2001 off David's channel, but 2005 and 2010 (and the 80s ones) appear to be MIA. Yes they have.

Bah and humbug!
2005 was the first election I could vote in, and *the predecessor of another forum we know well* had an election thread pretty much predicting a Tory victory most of the night! (And there was lots of Lib Dem ramping...)

Its not a proper election night coverage program without... some traditions need to be kept :-) Having said that I prefer the original Arthur

The election night schedules can be seen on Radio Times: www.radiotimes.com/tv/tv-listings/?sd=12-12-2019%2021:00Sky News are calling their coverage "The Brexit Election", whereas the BBC and ITV are calling theirs "Election 2019" and "Election 2019 Live: The Results" respectively.

What happened to the complaints to OfCom about Sky's use of that term?

ITV's election night show: I'm surprised the ITV show is on YouTube and the BBC one isn't (at least not yet), given precedent.

I tried to record Sky News's election show but my DVD machine wouldn't cooperate. Sky News don't like their election shows being uploaded to YouTube usually. I tried uploading the 1997 Sky election show once and it was taken down almost straight away.

I am now most of the way through watching the BBC coverage and really can't recommend it - little on the actual results, few declarations, an awful lot of Andrew Neil being macho and talking heads talking guff.
I almost entirely used Sky on the night and thought it wasn't bad, except when they covered up their rolling reel of results with lasting 'flashes' saying things like 'Conservatives reach 150 seats', so for example I didn't realise Raab had held my own constituency for about two hours. John Bercow, presumably regarded as their coup, wasn't as bad as I feared (at least he knew all the seats and MPs) unless and until issues concerning himself (bullying, rulings) were brought up, when he sort of proved the point.

Thanks for the tip. I watched Sky and recorded BBC, so perhaps I won’t watch it! Yes, I completely agree with the flashes point, missing results was very annoying. And I think during those flashes they might have put gains on a ticker above the flash but not holds. Stupid really. I must admit that I muted it when they went to the prolonged questioning of Bercow.
