This has probably been discussed before, but why are the Greens doing so poorly in Cambridge these days? Thought it'd be as fertile as, say, Norwich or Bristol for them. A mixture of loss of activists, internal divisions and other parties being strong city-wide, and especially in the wards with most Green potential. Though they had a bit of an uptick this year, so they may be recovering somewhat. I think Labour can be reasonably happy with the Queen Edith's result. There was a strong campaign (which unfortunately I didn't manage to help out with) and the Labour vote held up in difficult circumstances. Decent result for the Tories too - still underperforming the demographics, but that's the case in most of Cambridge and you still don't get a rebound without work. Its actually not in the Cambridge constituency in any case, is it? Its a most unlikely Labour ward, even in Cambridge! It's not in the Cambridge constituency, but Tory underperformance isn't due to that. A lot of it is pretty unlikely Labour territory, though that Saxon Estate isn't dissimilar to bits of south Cambridge where we've always done well.

IIRC Queen Edith's used to extend all the way to Cherry HInton Road which formed the northern boundary and therefore would have included more of that kind of territory, so if anything this ward is even more unlikely Labour territory than the previous one (though I think those same changes added Homerton college - not sure how many students live in there)

The town council by-election in Camborne (Roskear) in Cornwall was caused by the resignation of John Tredinnick-Rowe (Mebyon Kernow), who was elected unopposed in 2013, along with 2 Labour and 1 Conservative - so it is technically a Labour gain from MK.
The Conservatives have also gained the Bulmershe ward of Woodley Town Council in Wokingham unitary from a Lib Dem, now sitting as an Independent.
Further town council results are awaited from Knutsford (Nether) and Wilmslow (East), both in Cheshire East. There was also a non-political by-election in Holbeach (Hurn) in South Holland, Lincolnshire.

Camborne town council by election Roskear ward Lab 298 53.8% Con 145 26.2% MK 80 14.4% Green 31 5.6% Uncontested election in may 2013 If the Liberal Democrats are serious about retaking the constituency, why are they not standing a candidate here? The constituency was pretty much abandoned by them in the 2013 elections and I remain convinced that they no longer have the activist base to seriously challenge next May.

But the demographics of main roads are often quite different from the demographics of the streets coming off them (anecdotally, this seems to be particularly noticeable in the south of Cambridge), so I don't know whether that would actually have had much of an impact. On the other hand, most of the territory Queen Edith's gained from Trumpington at the same time is seriously posh. Homerton has a fairly large undergraduate complement, most of whom probably do live on site. The census has it at 17% full-time students, and whilst a fair amount of those are probably medical post-grads, that's a similar sort of figure to what you find in Romsey.
