The thing I really hate about that article is that they say council regulations mean no rules have been broken but then say the law only requires attendance every 6 months. So council regs don't come into it. I'm glad they're not journ.... oh wait...

And for what it's worth, I'd expect the by-election to be mid to late January rather than before Christmas.
