At least the Durham by-elections don't monolithically vote for one party, which makes them a little more interesting.

Burnopfield and Dipton is not far from where I grew up. It's not exactly an affluent area but it's better off than most of neighbouring Stanley.

A conservative who has always lived in labour areas.

The Labour candidate is the ex mother-in-law of a friend of mine and a former councillor on the old district council. She was also the losing Labour candidate in this ward last year.

One of her sons is the Labour PPC for Hexham.

Burnopfield is better off than Stanley, I think, but Dipton isn't. Quite a mixed ward including Hobson Golf Club where I'll be playing on Sunday.
