www.walesonline.co.uk/news/local-news/councillor-resigns-over-culture-attitude-7609959A prominent Cardiff councillor has resigned over what she described as her unhappiness with the Labour party. Siobhan Corria formally resigned her seat as a councillor for Llandaff North – but denied her decision stemmed from a problem with leader Phil Bale or his group. She said: “I have been unhappy for a long time in the Labour party. It is nothing to do with the Labour group or the leadership.” Ms Corria said had spoken to Welsh Labour’s general secretary David Hagendyk several times on issues over the “culture, attitude and sexism within the Labour party” but claimed he had “failed to act”. She said there was now “too much internal politics” within the party. Ms Corria, who was first elected in 2012, said: “I don’t want to represent a party that is happy to smear its own members. “There’s a failure to act and I’m tired now. I have got children to bring up and you’ve got to prioritise what makes you happy.” She added: “There is an area of sadness but I don’t enjoy it. I enjoy the stuff that doesn’t involve the Labour party but there’s so much focus on internal issues.”

Having got through all the motions to get herself elected as a councillor, being selected ahead of others presumably, she now discovers internal politics in the internal workings of a political party.
Clearly she was destined for great things.

Things aren't good in the Cardiff Labour Group, looks like their civil war is on going.

Cardiff Labour has always had factional issues. And the current council group expanded from third to a big majority in one election, which will always increase such... issues.

To be fair on this one there does seem to be other issues at play too, like the new job for her which caused a conflict of interest, which should have lead to an exit from the cabinet. I gather that the civil war has its roots in the last reorganisation and an influx of Labour councillors from the defunct South Glamorgan Council onto the city council. Less about ideology and more about personalities and creating tribal loyalties.

Though there was an ideological component to that, in that the Labour group on South Glam tended to be to the left of that on the city council.
