You'd have expected the LDs to hold off UKIP in a ward like Knight's Hill. How would this ward have voted in the 2010 general election? Probably Labour. It's in Dulwich and West Norwood (Tesse Jowell). She won 47-27 over LD and on the 8 wards, it was the 3rd better for the Lib Dems in the 2010 locals (the two other ones were in Southwark). Despite that, given the 20 points lead (and 9000 votes), I think than Labour won almost all wards, except perhaps East Dulwich.

Still nothing from Bolsover? Not a noise on Twitter, but Bolsover DC quietly published the result on their website. Tracey Cannon (Labour Party) 293 (70.9%) Robert Sainsbury (Conservative Party) 120 (29.1%) Bolsover DC

So, when is the last time a by-election was won by the person causing the vacancy?

So, when is the last time a by-election was won by the person causing the vacancy? I think there was one in Redcar 2-3 years ago - 2 LDs resigned for similar reasons - questions over eligibility. One re-stood and held the seat IIRC. There might be a more recent example.

So, when is the last time a by-election was won by the person causing the vacancy? There was a similar case in Barking & Dagenham 4 years ago. Louise Couling was elected for Goresbrook ward in May but disqualified as she had been working as a lollipop lady for the council at the time of her nomination. She won the subsequent by-election.

Found it - 17th Nov 2011 - Zetland ward - Ronald Harrison re-elected for Lib Dems having resigned after being elected in May of that year.

There was also the councillor in Middlesbrough who was disqualified for non-attendance a few years ago, and argued he was too busy with his ward work to attend council meetings which were largely irrelevant to his constituents. He got re-elected.

Wasn't that actually Darlington?
(spring 2012, a LibDem IIRC)
Also after 2010 there was Wes Streeting in Redbridge - again successfully re-elected.

Good memory - 12th April 2012 - Martin Swainston (LD) re-elected in Hurworth ward on Darlington council. Looks like a contender for the last time it happened.
