I've found references to a referendum held on 19th May 1924 to separate Hanover from Prussia again. It failed, but I've so far been able to find no statistics or commentary in either English or German, and the only press cuttings I've spotted so far are from, bizarrely, Australia.
Does anyone on here know anything about it?

I would guess that iainbhx is your man if anybody here knows anything... 18th of May 1924, A DHP initiative, all areas but Aurich to leave Prussia and become a self-standing Land in the Republic. Failed on turnout. I'll post the results later.

Thats the old Wahlen in der Weimarer Republik site! I thought that site had long gone. I actually have printouts of a lot of the results as in the early days (for me) of the internet alot of sites like this came and went and I could never rely on stuff being available forever. In this case the site did go, or so it seemed as all my old links had long since stopped working. I'd google searched it a few times with no joy too - probably not helped by doing it in English. You've absolutely made my day by reuniting me with this site

You've absolutely made my day by reuniting me with this site He's actually expanded it a fair bit now, there's some Kaiserreich results as well and he's put up a data bank for the details of some of the elections at Databank. So you can find results by Kreis which is very interesting.
