Good result for the evil Toreez.
LD hold Old Laund Booth, which must be in the top 100 ward names in the UK.

3rd July, Pendle Borough Council - Old Laund Booth Ward
Brian Newman - Liberal Democrat - 427 - 58.3% Jill Hartley - Conservative - 266 - 36.3% Mick Waddington - UKIP - 27 - 3.7% Kieran Hartley - Blue Party - 13 - 1.8%
Majority 161 Liberal Democrat Hold
Turnout 59.7% (this is not a typo) 1 spoilt paper (unmarked)
Changes since 2011. LD + 9.8, Con -10.9, UKIP +3.7, Blue +1.8, (Lab - 4.2).
This is a small village ward in a place called Fence - a former mill village in the Pendle countryside. LD candidate is the very active and well-known Chair of the Parish Council.
A vigorous campaign with lots of leaflets from LD, Con and Blue but nothing from UKIP. Thi smus tbe a record low score by UKIP in recent times (by quite a lot)?

News from Blackwall and Cubitt Town is that Labour candidates are in first and second places, but a Conservative is in third place and only eight votes ahead of the third Labour candidate.
The Labour agent has requested, and the Returning Officer has agreed to, a recount.

Probably outside of Inner London; playing around in Boundary Assistant I saw Johan Ward with 3.5% in Coldharbour and Steven Stanbury at 3.4% in Herne Hill, both in Lambeth.

LD gain Charlton Park. Source: Martin Horwood's twitter feed. Really pleased to see the superb Paul Baker elected, a brilliant candidate. We knew it would be really close, it was just the last 100 votes. Pleasing to see such derisory total for Labour and the Greens

Mixed bag for everyone this week, except perhaps Labour. The LD results in Cheltenham and Pendle are really good and also a very strong showing in Northampton, but the Yorkshire results must be disappointing and some predictably low shares elsewhere. The Northants holds are strong for the Tories, but they lost seats in Cheltenham and Tower Hamlets (albeit on different boundaries). Labour had a great result in Craven and a good showing in Tower Hamlets and generally did well except areas (Cheltenham) where you really wouldn't expect them to, so no real negatives this week. UKIP have some decent shares, but have fallen back from what was a very close 3 way battle last year in Braunston & Crick and I wonder if they'll be a bit disappointed with their showing in Colchester and Pendle.

Wivenhoe in general and Quay in particular are not very good for UKIP. Scraping third off very little work will be fine by them, I should think. I think they'll be more disappointed by their result in Tendring, as they swept all before them in the Europeans and seem to have taken the by-election at least as seriously as anybody else.

They only got 0.05% in Newark, and now 0.11% in Wivenhoe, doubling their vote share in just a few weeks! At the current rate of progress they should reach 100% just in time for the General Election. I wonder if one day the Alte Kaempfer will look back on these times and laugh, as they fit up a Dutch bloke for setting fire to Parliament.

UKIP have some decent shares, but have fallen back from what was a very close 3 way battle last year in Braunston & Crick and I wonder if they'll be a bit disappointed with their showing in Colchester and Pendle. Now that the Euro elections are over and have been forgotten by most people other than political anoraks like us, the oxygen of publicity for UKIP has been cut off. I think this explains their relatively poor showing this week. Its only one way from here on in for them. Publicity for the blues and reds will go up (along with discussion about how badly the yellows will do). I maintain my prediction that the LDs will roughly double UKIPs popular vote in 2015 (13 ish to 7 ish)

Interesting to see Labour gain a seat in Skipton - its been a long time! At one time Labour didn't even stand a candidate there, so this has to be a positive result More votes in the DC than the CC. The CC ward also includes Skipton North DC ward. This indicates that the vote is largely personal.
